👤 Is the Queensland Begonia Society Inc., 2019 Show on 23 – 24th February 2019?
at Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Mount Coot-tha
👤 Hi all,

I’m trying to track down two Begonias called The Duchess and Baby Douk. They were bread by a grower called Lyla Kilpatrick in Western Australia. The Duchess was named after my partner’s mother, who sadly died last week. I am desperate to find someone who has it so we can grow it. I’ve got in contact with Lila, she no longer has it and has recommended I try you all at QBS. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Matt

PS. Baby Douk was named after my partner, so we would love to grow that one too!

👤 Gardening guru Sabrina Hahn talks about her love of begonias on this week’s ‘All The Dirt’ gardening podcast. Listen on their website (www.allthedirt.com.au) or download to your smart phone or iPad.

👤 How much would I have to pay for an Iron Cross Begonia plant? Where can I purchase? Thanks.
👤 Hello ladies – can you please set up a Facebook Event for your upcoming show so that I can share it?
👤 Hello QBS members,
I am a Begonia Society of WA member coming to Qld in July. Is there anywhere you can recommend for me to see Qld begonias while the family is busy at the theme parks. We will be visiting the Sunshine Coast, staying in Noosa and the Gold Coast, staying in the Cedar Creek area.
Thanks.

The blue iridescence of Begonia pavonina is absolutely breathtaking. This wonderful species is endemic to the cool, mountain forests of Malaysia. This picture is a nice illustration of structural color. These are not blue pigments you are seeing but rather light being bent by the layered structuring of the leaf cuticle. Such iridescence can only be seen when viewed from the right angle under the right kind of light conditions.
